You might recently have gotten a new avian friend for your home, owned one for some time now, or have just been thinking about the possibility and responsibilities of owning one.
While there are many different bird species, there are a variety of things you can do for them that would apply to most, to keep them as happy as possible.
Here are a list of a few things you should keep in mind and try to put in practice for your feathered friend:
- Giving your bird plenty of exercise: While in the wild, birds usually get all of the physical activity they need from flying around, foraging for food, as well as keeping themselves safe from predators. This can be a challenge to replicate in captivity, unless you have a lot of time on your hands. There are a variety of activities or toys you can implement, not only to keep them healthy, but for the both of you to enjoy, such as dancing, games, or safe out-of-cage play.
- Socialize with your bird: The bond you form with your bird is one of the most important aspects for any owner, being able to dedicate time towards your bird and socializing with it is integral to keeping it happy.
- Find an appropriate cage/toys for your bird’s specific breed: It’s understandable that you might not be able to spend much time with your bird if you lead an active social life or busy work life. Therefore, it’s important that you give your bird toys to keep them happy and entertained while you aren’t able to interact with them. It’s important to not though, that birds may get tired of playing with a certain toy over and over, and switching out the toys for different ones occasionally is smart.
Follow these steps, and you too can keep your pet as healthy and happy as possible!
